This particular teacher training course is a specialist programme aimed at non-native primary teachers who wish to access tried and tested teaching materials and methodologies while increasing their own language awareness.

Attention is also paid to the latest materials and thinking in teaching learners and their practical application in the classroom. You will learn from an expert faculty on how to teach your own subjects though English with Drama, Music & Culture. 

Who is the Teacher Training - Drama Music & Culture Programme for?

If you are a non-native primary school teacher and you wish to access tried and tested methods and materials and methodologies while increasing your own language awareness, then this course is for you.

Keen attention is paid to the latest materials and thinking in teaching students and their practical application in the classroom. The course is structured in a way that gives the participants the teacher skills through an interactive approach through drama, culture and music.

Participants require a B2 (CEFR) level of English or above - a pre-test is required.

Objectives

The goals of this Teacher Training programme are as follows:

• To improve participants’ English language skills and work on their personal language goals
• To equip students with the confidence and skills needed to incorporate
  drama, music and culture into the primary school English language classroom
• To focus on materials development, assessment and micro teaching 
• To explore a wide variety of practical tasks and activities which can be put to immediate use in the classroom

Pedagogical Outcomes

When the course finishes, non-native primary ELT teachers will have improved their teaching skills in the following areas:

• How to assess the suitability and adaptability of drama, music and cultural materials for use in the primary school classroom
• How to utilise supplementary resources to deliver high quality, dynamic and varied lessons
• Further development their teaching skills and language awareness
• In addition, and of equal importance, by the end of the course the participants will have developed their own language skills considerably, improving their knowledge in the areas of pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar.

Methodology

Based on participants' needs, the course is task and workshop based incorporating language awareness and analysis, classroom management and lesson planning, teaching skills, materials development and current issues in methodology. The course consists of a combination of lectorials (lecture and tutorial) and workshops and participants are encouraged to share their own experiences. It will stimulate discussions giving participants the time and space to develop both professionally and personally.

Participants will have the opportunity to put their teaching into practice during the microteaching sessions. They will be observed by our teachers while doing peer teaching with the other course participants, after which detailed oral feedback will be given.

The objective is that participants leave with a range of new ideas and class plans that they can instantly use with their classes on their return. While everything is done through the medium of English, the focus is on how to best develop and use new materials and employ effective methodologies to engage learners.

However, to empower the participants, attention will be paid to the major grammar and vocabulary areas.
